😓 So, how did the trolling start?🧑‍🚒 

May 2025-il Sarvam AI launched their new model: Sarvam-M

A smart AI that can speak 10 Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, etc. It was also excellent at math and coding.

But something disappointing happened…

When they published the model on Hugging Face, only 23 people downloaded it in the first 2 days.

Deedy Das, a venture capitalist, trolled the company on social media:
“Two Korean college students’ AI got 200,000 downloads. Sarvam’s got only 23?”
After that, the trolling started.

"Nobody asked for this."
"This isn’t good enough."
"Indian AI companies only copy others."

🛡️ But not everyone was against them

Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu stepped in.
He said: “No product was ever an instant hit. Keep fighting the good fight.”

His message gave a huge boost to the Sarvam team. He reminded everyone – real success takes time.

🌟 But Sarvam’s model was actually powerful

Even with all the trolling, Sarvam-M was technically impressive:

• Spoke and understood 10 Indian languages

• Solved advanced math problems

• Generated flawless code

• Answered difficult Indian exam-level questions like those in JEE Advanced

On Indian-language-based math tests, it outperformed bigger international AIs by 86%. *comparing to other smaller models.

🔁 How did the comeback happen?

I think the main reason is these trolls - which gave more exposure to Sarvam-M — which in the end boost these Hugging Face downloads.

But when you look at the spaces using this model + likes this received..
